A little about OMI-CPP . . .

The OMI (Oceanview, Merced and Ingleside Districts) Cultural Participation Project began in 1999 as an initiative of the San Francisco Foundation and Lila Wallace Reader's Digest Funds to assist a culturally diverse neighborhood in coming together around art and culture to celebrate its roots and to unite as a growing place for community organizations and well-known events.

For the last six years, the OMI Cultural Participation Project has found its voice in collaborations with other community based organizations, organizing programs for the community such as Tai Chi at Brooks Park, Sunnyside and West Portal playgrounds, Oceanview Park and IT Bookman Center; and Yoga and Stretch and Arts and Drama for Seniors at the OMI Senior Center and the UPS store on Ocean Avenue. Recent project partnerships have included a drama on OMI's history with Lick Wilmerding high school and the Ocean Avenue Artwalk with numerous neighborhood merchants and organizations.

As a newly established non-profit, The OMI Cultural Participation Project has recently sponsored the OMI International Family Festival (originally at Oceanview Recreation Center) on Faxon Avenue between Ocean and DeMontfort. This is a growing event that will potentially become a signature part of the neighborhood. Partnering with the new "Merchants on Ocean Avenue" group and the "Ocean Avenue Revitalization Committee," the festival will bring local participation from Ocean Avenue merchants and businesses and will help promote a united event that is truly community.
